The wood mosaic (yosegi) patterns differ by each puzzle boxes.
It's hard a little to find the second step.
If the step 1 (slide key) goes too far, the step 2 panel will not move.
The feature of this box is that the second slide panel does not move down unless the first slide key is stopped in the middle.
A normal Japanese puzzle box >> moving the first slide key until it stops ,
and moves the second panel (as you know well).
